Robocup kicks off in Japan
A few weeks after the Korean one, the "other" Robot-soccer World Cup, Robocup, is starting in Fukuoka, Japan.
More than 1,000 participants and 193 teams, from 30 countries, will compete during the event, which will feature several robotic soccer tournaments. The robots are separated in categories, according to their size or the way they move. Like FIRA Cup in Korea, this edition of Robucup will feature for the very first time a humanoid robots category. Twelve teams (from universities and research labs) will compete in this category, whose rules are simpler: staying on a foot, walking as fast as possible, or kicking a penalty are some of the tests the biped robots will have to pass.
